Before being owned and loved by Flat Coated Retrievers (FCR), I was just your "typical pet owner.” Living with two lovely Labrador Retrievers named Ellie and Sophie, as well as a miniature Dachshund named Mia. Suddenly and tragically I lost my sweet lab Sophie and didn't know how I would go about healing the hole that was now residing in my heart. I knew I loved the Labs but didn't feel the time was right to add another one into the family so soon.

When I began the search I brainstormed a number of qualities I wanted in a dog such as a nice temperament, trainability and something that was easy on the eyes. Many Retrievers such as Curly-Coats, Labs, and Goldens would also fit the bill, but when I saw pictures of the FCR I instantly knew I needed to learn more about this GORGEOUS breed. I was introduced to the breed through a breeder that had, what she referred to as, the "pick female" of the litter. Of course, at the time, being a "pet person" this distinguishing factor wasn't of utmost importance to me. I was just happy to be paired with my newest family member, however I had no idea the amazing journey that my sweet Sadie was destined to take me on!

Today we are a family of five with Mia, and the four FCR's, Sadie, Stella, Niko and Shak. The past nine years have been a complete life changing whirlwind! Almost immediately after getting Sadie home and acclimated to the family I started showing her in the conformation ring with the help of her fantastic breeder and my good friends. I spent the first few shows learning the ropes and learning how to own a show dog. By the time her first few shows had passed I decided that it was time for me to pick up the lead and show her to her Bronze Grand Championship on my own. I have learned more in these past nine years about Flat Coats than I ever imagined possible and still strive to learn something new everyday. Flatline's foundation bitch, Sadie, has now become "GCHB Dare You To Stroke A Cheque JH RN DS BCAT CGCU CGCA TKI" along with becoming a mom and grandma.

And the show continues on...
